How about a new health policy? A private fee-based free-market system that does not penalize taxpayers or non-believers! And single-payer basic care for everyone else!
By Jack E. Lohman
How to fix it? First, split health care into two segments: extended care for those who want special abortion and sexual aid coverage and single-payer for the rest of us.
Private extended care policies:
Covering the morning after pill, birth control, abortions, erectile dysfunction and etc. Paid for by the men and women who elect to have this private insurance coverage. Or the employers who wish to satisfy employees, but not those employers or taxpayers who are opposed to it for religious or other reasons. It’s optional “free market” private health care! How can you oppose that?
Hell, they can even cover medical marijuana if they want! I’m sure Obama would want to.
Traditional, single-payer Medicare-for-all coverage for everyone else:
On true illnesses, you get sick, you get care and the caregiver gets paid. For everyone! Simply remove the 65 year age limit for Medicare. Expand it to 100% of Americans! Eliminate the deductibles; they cost more than they save anyway.
By itself single-payer would cover 100% of Americans and save $400 billion per year, but $125 million in campaign bribes to politicians from the insurance and pharmaceutical industries kept single-payer off the table.
And the $500 million of taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood, and probably as much to anti-abortion groups? Let these organizations be funded by outside non-taxpayer contributions.
Can you imagine what this country would be like if our politicians were not getting a piece of the action from the health care, and defense, and the oil companies?
